Israeli foodie tastes the brutality of Qaddafi

Israeli Slow Food coordinator Rafram Chaddad says he went to Libya in 2010 to document synagogues and cemeteries of the vanished Jewish community. He was arrested for spying and spent six months in prison – which he says he survived by thinking about food.

He’s since written a book about the experience: it’s a breezy travelogue about Libyan cuisine as well as a diary of his time in prison.
